01— The basics
What is an annual budget?
An annual budget is the 12-month view of your money. Instead of planning one month at a time, it totals every recurring income, expense, savings contribution and investment over a whole year. That longer lens smooths out the bumps — a quarterly insurance bill, an annual subscription, a once-a-year bonus — and shows whether, across all 365 days, you earn more than you spend.
The annual view is also where small habits become honest. A $5 daily coffee is easy to dismiss in a monthly budget; multiplied across a year it becomes $1,825, and that number is harder to ignore.
Annual income
Every income source totalled across 12 months — salary, side work, benefits.
Annual expenses
Every recurring cost totalled across the year — rent, groceries, transport, subscriptions.
Annual savings
Every contribution to savings and investments added up over the full year.
Annual remaining
Income minus expenses minus savings — what is truly left across the year.
02— The conversion
How recurring amounts add up over a year
To build an annual total, each income and expense is converted to a yearly basis using its real frequency. Clear Budget uses a precise annual basis (a year equals 365.2425 days and 52.1775 weeks) so the annual figure stays consistent with the daily, weekly and monthly views shown alongside it.
Daily → Annual
A daily 5 becomes about 1,826 a year — the true yearly cost of a small daily habit.
Weekly → Annual
A weekly 70 becomes about 3,652 a year — groceries or transport scaled to the year.
Monthly → Annual
A monthly 1,200 becomes 14,400 a year — rent or a mortgage seen over 12 months.
Biweekly → Annual
A biweekly 2,000 becomes about 52,178 a year — every 14 days, about 26.09 pay periods per average year.
Enter each item the way it actually occurs and Clear Budget shows the annual total next to the daily, weekly and monthly figures. For the closer-in views, see the Daily Budget Calculator, Weekly Budget Calculator and Monthly Budget Calculator pages.
